A Guide for Using Calcium Fertilizers

Calcium is an indispensable nutrient in the process of crop planting. Every year, many growers apply calcium fertilizer to their crops. It is understood that at least 40 kinds of physiological diseases of fruits and vegetables are caused by low calcium: apple bitter pox, tomato, citrus navel rot, pear water heart disease, grape cracking, and so on. Calcium deficiency in crops not only affects the normal growth of crops but also damages the planting losses of growers.

Why are crops so dependent on calcium?

Calcium is one of the essential medium elements in plants. Dicotyledonous plants have a high demand for monocotyledonous plants, and their existence has irreplaceable functions:

1. Stabilize plant tissue to enhance the resistance of crops to heavy metals, pests, diseases, drought, etc.

2. Improve quality and prevent cell rupture from bitter pox, water heart disease, rot heart disease, and post-harvest rot.

3. Prevent premature aging.

4. Promote root growth.

How can we make calcium supplementation less difficult?

Use of root calcium fertilizer:

At present, calcium fertilizers on the market mainly include lime and calcium nitrate. Calcium nitrate has high solubility and can be used as a water-soluble fertilizer for flushing or spraying; the use of lime needs to be cautious, and long-term application of lime can easily cause soil pH to rise.

What needs to be reminded here is that the calcium fertilizer applied to the soil can be used again at an interval after 2-3 years of continuous use. It should not be used year after year. When using calcium fertilizer, it is best to use it in combination with organic fertilizer, so that it has good absorption of calcium fertilizer. synergistic effect.

The timing of spraying is critical:

Selecting the optimal calcium nutrition period of crops for foliar spraying will have a very good calcium supplementation effect. Generally, the demand for calcium in crops reaches a peak period in the young fruit stage, and the synchronization of the foliar surface and the fruit surface can be achieved during this period. Absorption, a small amount of calcium can be taken several times for foliar calcium supplementation.

Multi-nutrient synchronization:

When topdressing calcium fertilizers to the roots, nutrients such as potassium, zinc, and boron can be added to the leaves at the same time, which can promote the absorption of calcium and improve the utilization rate of nutrients.
